We recommend you complete and submit your application and supporting documents at least 20 working days before you plan to leave for school! This allows for processing time.
Eligibility Requirements
You must have already been accepted by a Canadian educational institution.
You need to prove you can pay:
Your tuition and school expenses.
Living expenses for yourself, as well as any family members who accompany you.
Expenses for you and your accompanying family members return trip home.
You may need to prove you are a law-abiding citizen, have no criminal record (and thus, would not be a security risk).
You can obtain a police certificate for this purpose.
You may be required to submit to a medical examination to prove you’re in good health.
You may have to prove to an immigration officer you plan to leave when your studies are done.
There are exceptions! You don’t need a study permit if:
Your course of study is less than 6 months. (You may still want to get one though just in case you decide to continue your studies.)
You have a family member who is or you are a foreign representative to Canada.
You are member of the foreign armed forces. This doesn’t apply to your family though.
Application Process
Application Instructions – These will tell you what you need to know to complete the application and any specifications.
Study Permit Application – You’ll need to fill this out in its entirety and attach your original letter of acceptance to the school you’ll be attending.
Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union – Only if applicable.
Family Composition Form - Only if over 18
One pre-paid airway bill if you are applying in person. If you send your documents by courier please send two pre-paid airway bills. Please make sure of paying to the courier company the portion of collection.
Use of Representative – Only if applicable, meaning you are going to use a representative to deal with your application.
Study Permit Checklist – You can use this to determine if you have all the documents needed.
Fees Receipt. You will need proof of fees paid for the application.

Paying fees online.
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader and an acceptable credit card (Visa, American Express or MasterCard) to pay online.
Print the receipt and include with application as proof of fees paid.
