Family Immigration to France

Process for Family Immigration 

If you plan to stay for less than 90 days, you do not require a visa to visit France.  You may wish to apply for a Schengen Visa to be able travel throughout France and Schengen territories.

If you plan on visiting France for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a Long-Stay Visa at your local Embassy or Consulate Office.

Family Members who are able to apply for a Long-Stay Visa include:

  • Spouse.

  • Fiancé who is marrying a French Citizen in France.

  • Children (under 18 years of age).

 

Step by Step Procedures:

To apply for a long-stay visa, you must prove you are: 

  • Moving to reside in France as a spouse of a French citizen.

  • Married in France and moved to France.

  • A dependent of a French Citizen.

  • Additional documents may be required by the competent authority to process visas, including those of persons under 18 years of age.

 

Provide the following Original documents, plus 2 photocopies of each of the following:

  • Passport that is valid for the period of your stay in France, plus photocopies of the title pages on your Passport.

  • Two long-stay visa application forms completed and signed.  

  • Two recent identity photographs meeting standard requirements.

  • Application fee equal to the exchange value of €99(Euros).

  • Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, and/or Official Marriage License. 

  • TWO PHOTOCOPIES of one of the following documents to prove French nationality of French spouse:

    • Proof of registration in the registry of foreign nationals abroad (for example, a valid consular card);

    • A French identity card;

    • A certificate of French nationality; or

    • A true copy of the order of naturalization or reinstatement of French nationality;

  • Proof of residence in France of the future French spouse or the intention of the future French spouse to move to France.  (deed, utility bill, lease less than three months old).

  • Proof of means of support.

  • Proof of medical insurance with full coverage valid in France. Letter from the insurance company is required, stating that you are covered for any certain amount. The consular will not accept JUST an insurance card.

  • Proof of adequate personal means to return to one’s country of residence.

  • Proof of non-criminal record from local police authorities.

  • You must apply in person at the local French Embassy or Consulate

The French diplomatic or consular authority will accept your visa application and the required documentation and payments; however, they may require you to provide additional documentation.
