Rules/guidelines for Family Immigration

Marriage:

If you wish to marry a Mexican national, you must apply for authorization by visiting any National Institute of Immigration office or delegation.

The following documents are needed in order to apply:

  • Print the Official Application for immigration.  Fill out correctly and sign where indicated.

  • Original and copy of a valid passport.

  • Original and 2 copies of the appropriate payment for fees of $1,723.00 pesos (as of 1/09). Payments need to be done by either Bank payment or Internet payment.

  • A letter in Spanish to National Institute of Immigration that states that neither party has any obstacle to marriage and that both parties are single. If divorced, a divorce decree has to be added. Also include in the letter the name, place and date where the marriage is to be performed. The letter must be signed by both parties.

  • A birth certificate and picture ID of the Mexican national.

  • Written parental permission by parents or guardians, or emancipation document, for applicants under 21 years of age.

  • The above requirements have to be taken to either a US Mexican Consulate’s office or an Embassy everywhere else, or to the National Institute of Immigration at Homer 1832, Col. Polanco, Delegacion Miguel Hidalgo, C.P. 11510, Mexico, DF,  Tel. 011 52 55 53 87 24 00.

IMPORTANT: All documents have to be translated; contact the US Mexican Consulate’s office or an Embassy for a referral to an approved office that will translate and certify your records.

Procedure takes approximately 35 days.

 

Family:

If you wish to join a family member that is already residing in Mexico, the following documents are needed in order to apply:

  • Print the Official Application for immigration. Fill out correctly and sign where indicated.

  • A Letter in Spanish to the National Institute of Immigration requesting permission to reside in Mexico as a dependant of the Mexican citizen.

  • You need to show proof that you are a first-degree, direct descendent of your Mexican relative (i.e.: brother or sister, aunt or uncle, parent, niece or nephew, son or daughter).

  • Original and copy of valid passport.

  • Original and 2 copies of the appropriate payment for fees of $1,815.00 pesos (as of 1/09)

  • Payments need to be done by either Bank payment or Internet payment.

  • Proof of savings or investments in the country of origin equivalent to 400 days the minimum wage in Mexico City ($52.08 pesos per day as of 1/09).

  • If more than one person is immigrating, this amount should be 200 days the minimum wage in Mexico City per person.($52.08 pesos per day as of 1/09).

  • An official bank letter verifying that the immigrant shows that he/she has the amounts necessary to cover the previous amounts for a period of a year.
