Immigration Reform is Going to be Hard

Costa Rica - Joe Biden, Vice-President of the United States, who is in Costa Rica, to meet with Central American leaders  says that “due to the economic slump and soaring unemployment it is not a good idea to push immigration reform” About 12 million illegal immigrants live in the US, and it was the plan of President Obama to legalize illegal immigrants. Because of the rising unemployment in the US and people losing their houses it will be very difficult for the US citizens to support that plan.

"We believe, that this problem can only be solved in the context of an overall immigration reform," Biden said. "We need some patience as we try to put together a comprehensive approach to deal with this."

A comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws -- including plans for a guest worker program -- was killed off by Republicans in the U.S. Senate in 2007, although many Central Americans have been able to stay in the United States under the Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, system.

Mr. Obama is supposed to go to Mexico in April to talk to President Calderon about immigration reform that he promised during his election. What the Vice President, Joe Biden,  is talking about is contrary to what Mr. Obama is going to Mexico for.
